The Library of Congress has FIVE educational Apps that you can download onto to your iOs device. This will allow you and your students to experience the Library and all of it’s vast resources on the go!
- You can download U.S. Constitution: Analysis and Interpretation to learn about the comprehensive analytical legal treatise.
- The Congressional Record to read the daily editioral of the Congressional Record.
- BARD Mobile which is a service of the National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped that provides access to Braille and talking books. On BARD you will find nearly 50,000 books, magazines, and music scores in audio and Braille formats.
- The Library of Congress –Virtual Tour that allows you to take a virtual tour of the largest Library in the world.
- And one of Mrs. Lubben’s 4th grade students favorite, Aesop for Children. This is an interactive book that contains over 140 classic fables, accompanied by beautiful illustrations and interactive animations.

Are you looking for interactive ways to engage your students? The Library of Congress has a new extension to their website called Congress.gov. Here you will find the official source for federal legislative information. This is the new system that replaces THOMAS.gov. This new site has a user-friendly comprehensive information retrieval which includes fun and educational videos that provide a basic outline of the steps involved in the legislative process. TPS-GSU Team Presenting Workshop at ICE
This year, the Illinois Computing Educators Conference – ICE – will be held in St. Charles, IL, from February 25-28th. We are excited to announce that our team will be presenting aworkshop at the conference.
On Friday, February 28th, Carol Meyer will teach Use Primary Sources to Create Engaging Civil War Lessons. In this workshop, Carol will help you make your lessons more engaging for students by using digital primary sources from the Library of Congress. You will learn how primary sources and a few technology tools can be used for instruction on the Civil War that requires students to do close reading, ask text-dependent question, collaborate with others, and think critically. Carol will demonstrate primary source sets, searching, classroom activities, and teacher resources that can help you get started with using primary sources. This session will also help you understand some ways you can use primary sources to provide activities based on the Common Core State Standards.
